WineMenu.ai does not sell your personal data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties except as described below to operate the service.
What we collect and why
Photos of wine lists. When you scan a wine list, the image is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to identify and analyze the wines. The image is processed in real time and is not stored by WineMenu.ai after analysis is complete. Anthropic's data handling is governed by their privacy policy.
Account information. We collect your email address when you create an account, used for sign-in and support communications. We do not collect your name unless you choose to provide it.
Scan history. We store the results of your wine scans — the wines identified, pricing data, and recommendations — so you can review past sessions in the app. This data is associated with your account.
Taste preferences. If you set taste preferences (varietals, regions, price range), we store these to personalize recommendations.
Location. With your permission, we use your device location to identify the restaurant you're dining at and show it alongside your scan. Location is not stored beyond the scan session and is never used for advertising.
Usage and diagnostics. We collect basic crash reports and usage analytics (e.g., features used, error counts) to improve the app. This data is not linked to your identity.
Payments and subscriptions
Subscription payments are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We do not receive or store your payment card information. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status across platforms. RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.
Third-party services
We use the following third-party services to operate WineMenu.ai:
- Anthropic Claude — AI analysis of wine list images
- Wine-Searcher — Wine pricing and availability data
- Google Firebase / Firestore — Account storage and app backend
- RevenueCat — Subscription management
- Cloudflare — Website and API hosting
Each service provider processes data only as necessary to provide their function and is contractually prohibited from using your data for other purposes.
Data retention
We retain your account data and scan history for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the app's settings screen. Deletion is permanent and takes effect within 30 days.
Children
WineMenu.ai is not directed at children under 17. We do not knowingly collect personal information from users under 17. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or California, additional rights may apply. Please contact us for details.
Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security but take reasonable precautions to protect your data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll notify you of material changes via email or an in-app notice before they take effect. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
